Bonds to Attend Day of Weatherization in Southeast DC

On Saturday, November 2nd, WGL/Washington Gas volunteers will provide free energy-efficiency upgrades to over 75 homes in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Teams of volunteers will be preparing homes for winter by installing weather stripping, low flow aerators, outlet sealants, door sweeps, and insulation, as well as caulking to seal air leaks.

There will be two media houses, one in DC and one in Maryland. Councilmember Anita Bonds and WGL/Washington Gas Chairman & CEO Terry McCallister will be present at the DC location, as will local homeowners and Washington Gas volunteers.

The media house in DC is located at 3501 Wheeler Rd. SE, Washington DC 20032. Press are invited from 9 AM – 11 AM for interviews and photos.

The Day of Weatherization is part of a continuous effort by WGL/Washington Gas to educate residents about energy efficiency, and to help lower heating bills during winter months.

Key Facts:

  • Around 20% of the heat lost from an average home occurs through the windows.
  • Energy bills can frequently reach up to 30% of a household’s monthly income.
  • Heating and hot water account for over half the cost of the average fuel bill.
  • Unless homes are newly built, heating systems are unlikely to be running as efficiently as possible.
